Records Management and Administration Office (RMAO)
The Records Management
and Administration Office develops and oversees the
implementation of a comprehensive system to manage records
effectively and efficiently. It provides training, advisory
and records centre services to government bureaux and
departments, as well as administration services to all
the Government Records Service units.
Training and Advisory
Service
The Training and Advisory
Service provides training and advisory services to government
bureaux and departments to support their effective management
of government records and application of related policies,
procedures and standards.
The functions of the
Training and Advisory Service are to:
(a)
plan, develop and organize various types of service-wide records management training courses for different levels of records management personnel for them to perform their records management responsibilities more effectively and efficiently;
(b)
organize ad hoc training courses for government bureaux and departments to address their specific needs and/or seminars on specific records management topics on a need basis;
(c)
conduct studies and give advice
on records management for government bureaux and
departments, make recommendations to address their
records management needs and render assistance
to them in implementing the recommendations; and
(d)
conduct surveys and studies as
and when required to facilitate planning and development
of records management training and advisory activities.
Records Centre Service
The Records Centre Service develops and implements effective and efficient systems and procedures to facilitate government bureaux and departments in disposing of their records and to provide them with centralized records storage facilities for housing of their inactive records. The provision of such facilities has enhanced records management practices and realized notional savings on costs associated with storage of inactive records required by government offices.
The functions of the Records Centre Service are to:
(a)
appraise government records and advise on their appropriate retention period and disposal method;
(b)
advise on and authorize records disposal schedules for effective and systematic disposal of government records;
(c)
approve disposal of government records; and
(d)
provide centralized records storage service and operate records storage centres.

Administration Service
The Administration Service advises and collaborates with all units in the Government Records Service to provide effective administrative service in respect of:
