Internment Camps
During the Japanese Occupation, the Japanese Military Government set up internment camps at various places such as Sham Shui Po and Stanley to detain prisoners of war and foreign civilians. The Hongkong News, a Japanese-controlled propaganda newspaper, published overly positive reports, claiming the camps were spacious and that visitors were allowed to provide material assistance to internees. However, these reports differ greatly from the memories and personal experiences of the internees.
