The Hong Kong City Hall Memorial Garden

Unveiled in 1962, the Hong Kong City Hall Memorial Garden, positioned between the High Block and Low Block of the Hong Kong City Hall, was built to honour the soldiers and citizens who died in defence of Hong Kong in World War II. At its centre is a 12-sided Memorial Shrine showcasing a Roll of Honour and plaques listing the name of the units which fought in the battle. The walls feature eight Chinese characters denoting the remembrance of the everlasting spirit of the Brave and the Dead. The National People's Congress declared 3 September as the “Victory Day of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression” in 2014. The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region holds a ceremony at the Hong Kong City Hall Memorial Garden on 3 September every year. Additionally, “Ceremony to Commemorate Those Who Died in the Defence of Hong Kong” is also held every year on Chung Yeung Festival at the Memorial Garden.
