From February, 1942, some theatres were re-opened, including the Yu Lok, the Meiji, the Lee, the New World, the Central and the Oriental in Hong Kong; the Ping On and the Tai Wah (formerly Majestic Theatre) in Kowloon. All shown films were under the restriction of the Regulations for Censorship of Cinematography Films for Entertainment.

According to the Regulations for Censorship of Cinematography Films for Entertainment of the Governor's Office of the Captured Territory of Hong Kong, all shown films and theatres should be under close scrutiny. Contents which threatened the superiority of the Army, bettered-off the enemies or destroyed the stability of society would be cut.
